Sally Face

The indie game known as Sally Face has grown in the past few years, specifically since 2015. The creator goes by “portablemoose,” also known as Steve Gabry. An indie game is a game that is made independently by a developer. The games normally have no publisher financial support and rely on concept. The game Sally Face started off as a weird game that not many heard about, until popular youtubers really had shone light on the game. Two of the youtubers who are popular, for example, Jacksepticeye and CinnamonToastKen were only two of the many in which had shone light on this lovely game. This is when other people ran out to go quickly buy the game.

When famous gamers like the two listed youtubers above shout out something, many of their fans jump to go buy and play what their idol is playing. In the game, Steve Gabry recognizes this and actually hides easter eggs within the game. Easter eggs within the video game world are little hidden things that normally reference out of game things. For example, Steve made little stickers on the wall of different youtubers who had helped shine light on the game, but of their logos. This was in appreciation of those who helped him go further.

Interesting characters and story plots are showcased in the series as well. You play as a child at first named Sal Fisher. He wears a prosthetic mask on his face, and for the majority of the game he is in highschool, accompanied by Larry Jonhson, Todd Morrison, and Ashley Campbell. There are background characters, such as, Megan, Travis, Chug, Maple, along with Lisa, Sal’s father, and other people who live within the apartment. Something dark and twisted is with the apartment complex, and it is essentially up to you as Sal Fisher to solve the mystery. The creator even explained on their website, titled portablemoose.com, by saying, “Delve into a dark adventure following a boy with a prosthetic face and a mysterious past. In the first episode, Strange Neighbors, Sally Face and his father move into an apartment filled with odd tenants and an unfortunate crime scene. Little did they know what misfortune still awaits.”

The episodes are titled, one through four, “Strange Neighbors,” “The Wretched,” “The Bologna Incident,” and “The Trial.” The different episodes not only show character development, but also development in the artwork and story as well. This is an incredibly well made game, especially for someone who wrote, designed, and created it by themselves. This game is not for the ‘faint of heart,’ as there is disturbing imagery and storyline, however, oddly beautiful, as it displays a message and a wonderful story as it is.

The game is still ongoing and will be completed one day. Currently, the game is at epsiode four, as Steve Gabry is making the next episode. This game is so beautiful and honestly deserves a lot more recognition than it currently has. So much hard work and effort has gone into this game, and you really can tell.
