The Country Battling Flames

A fire has been blazing across Australia for months since September of 2019. Towns and communities have completely turned into ash and nearly 20 million acres are burned. More than 2,000 homes have been destroyed. At least 25 people have been reported dead according to multiple sources. The skies have become orange and breathing the affected air is equivalent to smoking 37 cigarettes. As the environment continues to burn, numbers begin to fluctuate between the number of deaths of the animals. CBS News recently stated that the wildlife conservation organization estimated around 1.25 billion animals have died. 

Currently, 2,700 firefighters are already battling these flames to save as much land and animals as possible. According to sources, these firemen have already scorched more than 14.7 million arches of land. 

Recently, CNN has reported that 183 people are being accused of criminal acts concerning starting the fire. Out of the 183, 53 have received charges for failing to comply with a total fire ban. The other 47 are accused of lighting a match or discarding cigarettes on land. 

Multiple celebrities are donating tons of money to help support Australia. Actors, musicians, and athletes have all informed the public about donating to multiple foundations. Famous singer, Pink, has donated $500,000 directly to the fire services. Talk show host, Ellen Degeneres, has donated to 3 different organizations. Chris Hemsworth has donated $1 million to help support his home country. As well as Steve Irwin’s family has saved over 90,000 animals at their Wildlife Hospital and are rescuing as many as possible in their home country.
