If you enjoy the 7 horror movie franchise, Wrong Turn, directed by Mike P. Nelson, then you must watch the remake of the 2003 movie. Unlike the other movies, this one is less gory. As usual, teenagers ignore the warnings that stick to the Appalachian Trails, and they begin to stray off course and cross into land inhabited by a hidden community of mountain dwellers who use deadly means to protect their way of life. The friends seem to be headed to the point of no return unless one man can reach them in time.
The main concept that has remained the same throughout the movie is the character’s death. Wrong Turn wouldn’t be a “Wrong Turn” movie if there aren’t any bloody death scenes. If you have a weak stomach, I don’t recommend watching any of these movies. It’s fairly gruesome with full visuals of graphic violence. Each death was pretty realistic and well done. The traps placed around the mountains, as well as the costumes, were really barbaric, which went well for this movie. The acting isn’t cheesy at all, horror movies often have poor acting scenes which take away the effect of fear and suspense. Wrong Turn keeps you at the edge of your seat within the first 10 minutes of the movie.
As I began to watch the movie, I went in with little to no motivation in watching the remake, normally some remakes are worse than the originals. However, they portrayed the movie really well. The length of the movie was longer than I anticipated. Towards the last 30 minutes of the movie, I thought it was the end, but it continued on. The plot twist at the end was amazing and highly unexpected. You can clearly see a lot of character development throughout the movie as well, especially with the main character, Jes Shaw.
However, if you are an original fan of the movies, this one might disappoint you. There is not much to the cannibal parts like the other Wrong Turn movies, or other bizarre rated R scenes. Depending on what kind of viewer you are for Wrong Turn, you’ll either like it or hate it.
In my personal opinion, this movie was filmed well and an amazing horror movie, even if you’re not a fan of the other movies. It kept me really intrigued and wanting to watch more once it finished. Each character played their parts well and the storyline was highly entertaining. I recommend this movie to people who are willing to watch a different horror movie series because Wrong Turn is definitely like no other.
