Taylor Swift & Lana Del Rey’s Upcoming Collab: Everything to Know So Far

Fans of pop and alternative music are overjoyed to hear about the long-awaited bridge between two iconic women in the industry: Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift, who have been rumored to record together many a time over the course of their careers, are finally collabing for real. Swift announced her next body of work at the 2022 VMAs whilst collecting her Video of the Year award. The new album, to be released October 21st, will be featuring her famously lucky number 13. According to the songstress, the upcoming album titled Midnights will feature 13 tracks. In her own words, these songs are “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.”

Where does Lana Del Rey fit into the occasion? Also considered a storytelling musical genius, Del Rey is reported by Swift herself on her TikTok show Midnight’s Mayhem with Me to be featured on the fourth track, titled “Snow on the Beach.” Given that both musicians have worked with producer Jack Antonoff on some of their best respective work, and this album is no exception, fans are anticipating nothing short of perfection from the Shania Twain and Fiona Apple of our generation.

While it is unclear exactly what the content of the song is, we luckily will not have to wait much longer. Certainly not as long if the song were coming out the opposite end. (Lana Del Rey famously puts off releasing music for several months from the original date.) In classic Swiftie fashion, fans have many theories as to what Snow on the Beach may be about. Some probable, some incredulous, it seems there is an endless list of storylines the song could follow. In relation to Lana Del Rey, some theorize it could be a tribute to her popular “High By the Beach” track on the Honeymoon album, which came out in 2014. Another thing to famously occur in 2014 was Swift’s alleged lurking on 4Chan forums, in which she was rumored to post “Nothing like an ice cold wintery beach”, something she also shared to her own, public social media.

Whatever the case may be, it goes without saying that we are finally getting the long overdue collab of a century. Whether Swift and Del Rey deliver something measurable to their new indie, 70s soft rock sound, or resembling their early 2010s Tumblr pop, it is definitely going to be one for the history books.
