Aspiring Young Performer Rises to Take the Lead

Alexa Brin, a senior at Smithtown High School West has been an active part in the theater community for eight years. This aspiring young star has participated in over twenty productions since fourth grade and has been a lead in many of those works. She is an active member in the Smithtown Performing Arts Center and has also contributed to productions in her school, and other theaters around Long Island. She is a very dedicated to the SPAC community and actually gives over 36 hours a week to this theater.

Some of her biggest achievements have been playing Eponine in Les Miserable, Ariel in the Little Mermaid, and Cinderella in Cinderella. Brin states, “I am very proud to have taken a part in these leading roles because these are some of my favorite shows ever!” Alexa takes a lot of pride in her accomplishments and believes that she has come a long way from when she first started. “I have definitely grown as a performer and singer, and I learned to take on my own responsibilities.”

Between schoolwork, college applications and her passion, the theater, one might think she has a problem balancing her priorities, but she is actually also a very dedicated student and has little trouble. She gets exceptional grades in school despite working numerous hours at the theater. Brin states, “Although sometimes it is challenging to complete my school work when I work late hours, I try my hardest and complete all of my work despite how late I may get home.” Her focus and commitment to theater has had a direct relationship with all of her accomplishments.

Although she does not want to make a career out of it, she intends to continue to participate in shows and the theater community all throughout her life. Alexa has grown as a person, has learned responsibilities, and has shaped her overall character as a result of joining the theater community. “Theater has changed my life in the most positive of ways possible. I’ve met many lifelong friends through theater and I wouldn’t change my experience for the world, it is truly my passion.”
