Tuesday, October 31st, 2017, terror struck the streets of NYC when a madman ISIS Terrorist drove a truck onto a bike lane, then crashing into a school bus, killing 8 and injuring 12.
At 2:06pm, suspect, Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, 29, a native of Uzbekistan with no serious criminal record rented a Home Depot truck in Passaic, NJ. From there he drove through the George Washington Bridge, until at 3:04, he drove onto bike/walking path in N.Y.C. near Houston Street. From that point on, he continued down to path, mowing down pedestrians, and cyclists alike. He then smashed into a school bus on Chamber Street, stopping the madman from continuing down the path. He then exited the vehicle with a paintball and pelt gun. By 3:08 pm, there were dozens of 9-1-1 calls reporting a truck attack, and man with a gun. Assigned to the area, Officer Ryan Nash, shot suspect in the stomach, and took the driver into custody. This attack was associated with ISIS, after Sapiov asked to hang the ISIS flag in his hospital room. (Timeline is from CNN).
Now that the timeline has been established, we can understand that in the blink of an eye, a span of a meer few minutes your life can be changed forever. By the hand of Sapiov, 8 people’s lives has ended, and 12 lives have been changed forever. Not to mention the families lives. These people were innocent lives, taken away by a terrorist who was controlled by the influences of ISIS. Why did this man unleash terror in N.Y.C.?
The victims were going about their day, when their lives were changed forever. About 24 hours after, the courts filed to charge Sapiov, which led the case to a regular court hearing, though he meticulously planned this terror attack on N.Y.C. “Federal prosecutors on Wednesday filed charges accusing the driver in the Manhattan truck attack of carrying out a long-planned plot, spurred by Islamic State propaganda videos, to kill people celebrating Halloween” said, Benjamin Mueller, William K. RashbaumI, Al Baker and Adam Goldman of the New York Times. Even though there is a special court set up by the military for terrorists, Sapiov somehow ended up in a civilian court room.
Entering the United States in 2010, Sapiov, turned toward extremism against what the U.S. was doing in regard to the Israel. “Mirrakhmat Muminov, a truck driver and community activist in Stow, Ohio, said Mr. Saipov became aggressive and grew out his beard during his three years there. Mr. Muminov said he grew concerned about Mr. Saipov’s temper, including how heated he became when he discussed American policies regarding Israel” wrote Benjamin Mueller, William K. RashbaumI, Al Baker and Adam Goldman of the New York Times. I understand the passion a person can have toward a particular subject, but if it is having a harmful effect on innocent people, isn’t it the government’s job to keep a small tab on that particular person.
“The Islamic State claimed responsibility on Thursday for the deadly Halloween day terror attack in New York City in the group’s weekly newsletter, al-Naba” reported ABC journalist Mark Osborne. This was another act of terrorism in the United States, specifically New York. With the increase of terrorism and fear across the world, we as a population cannot let it define us, we cannot live in fear otherwise they win, and they don’t deserve that.
