In the current world of the NBA we have seen an increase in blockbuster trades and unpredictable free agent signings in order to form “super teams” and whether it is positive or negative for the league.
Some fans are starting to get fed up with all the super teams, it seems if you don’t have at least 3 stars you don’t even have a realistic shot to win the championship. Although, for the fans of teams like Golden State and Cleveland, the fans are enjoying every moment of their team’s domination over the past few years.
The Superteam era has definitely brought more excitement to the league. There has been more blockbuster trades, rivalries, and even some hard feelings. When Kevin Durant signed with Golden State the whole League and it’s fans were afraid they’d be to dominant and it created a tension between him and old teammate Russel Westbrook. Now the whole league is trying to catch up and add multiple stars to their arsenal to be able to get in the championship race. Just in the past off season we’ve seen superstars such as Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Dwayne Wade, etc. joining other all stars in the league in attempt to catch up with Golden State. The original “super team”.
The super team being introduced to the NBA has made the NBA different and in some aspects more interesting. Getting to see multiple great players in the NBA teaming up and playing together is amazing to watch. But the fans of teams that have not been able to get themselves into the race, do not like the new era the NBA is entering. But when the team you’re rooting for starts winning no complaints will be made.
The super team era has been good for the league. It’s helped draw attention to it and has made a positive environment for fan bases, creating more interested fans. Who doesn’t want to watch their favorite team dominate?
