Finding Dory is your typical family fun movie with aspects of reality and hints of truth that make the movie that much better than some movie about a fish getting lost and being found. The introduction of new characters and a new setting gives the movie a surprising yet interesting taste yet still connects to the first movie arguably making Finding Dory one of the best sequals of our time.
As from the title, similar to the theme of “Finding Nemo”,where Nemo became lost at sea, Dory becomes lost at a local aquarium. Along the way, she meets a handful of new characters, and even some of her own kind. Ironically, after each character she meets, Nemo and Marlin, following her traces meet the same characters from their own point of view. These characters include a beluga whale, a shark, a seagull and of course, fish that are all different yet funny in their own ways. No matter how old you are, it’s impossible to not laugh at the humor that comes along with the Dramatic Irony.
At often times, the movie intertwines and cuts back to scenes from the previous movie that connects to the plot of Finding Dory. The minute Dory becomes lost, the same music and overall intensity of the scene is exactly the same as the first one. Famous slogan’s such as “I’m Dory and I suffer from short-term memory loss”and similar character behavior from the first movie create an even more corny and catchy tone in the second.
It’s also interesting to see the maturity of Nemo in “Finding Dory”. The movie plays in time with current day which would make Nemo about 16 years of age. In the first movie, Nemo as a young fish was lost and found at see where as now, he is taking part in the responsibility and journey in order to Find Dory.
For 90’s kids and early 2000 kids, it’s as if a wave of memories from a decade ago flew back into present day. A sense of sympathy and happiness was born again which made the movie exciting, family-oriented yet heartfelt. But, even if you weren’t alive at that time, the sympathy for Dory finally finding her parents after decades separated by miles of sea still portrays the same heartfelt feeling. No matter the age, a classic movie was yet, revived from the past.
