Mental Health in Teens

The teenage years are a critical portion of a person’s life. The mind is finishing its development, which is why it is so important for teens to be mentallly healthy. 

However, in today’s society, mental health is overlooked, causing negative effects. According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 7 10-19 year olds suffer from a mental illness. Mental illness can be a difficult thing to address, and many teens don’t know how to get proper help.   

Parents of the mentally-ill teens struggle to deal with these problems. According to the CDC, only 59.3% of children aged 3-17 diagnosed with anxiety are treated. These statistics show that many teens and children struggle with mental health issues, but very few get the help they need. So, how do we deal with mental illness? 

Channeling your energy is a very common and very effective way to relieve mental illness. Doing activities that you enjoy doing such as a sport, art, reading, or running can act as a positive outlet for kids and teens with mental health issues. 

Another way to help these illnesses is to get help with a therapist. Therapists have recently been introduced into schools, so they are easily accessible for all students. This method can act as a positive outlet for students and give them someone to talk to, especially if they are struggling to ask for help. 

Mental illnesses can be a difficult thing to handle, especially for kids and teens. However, with the right treatment, we can help our teenage community and make a significant impact on the mentally ill.
