Is Taylor Swift’s 10th Studio Album a 10/10?

Taylor Swift’s 10th studio album, Midnights was released on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Midnight.  She based the album on 13 sleepless nights in her life.  I took a listen right when it was released to get the full experience.  At 3 a.m. she released a version of her album titled, Midnights (3am Edition) which included 7 more songs.  The 13th track album is very different from her other albums.  She did go back to pop after her last two studio albums folklore and evermore being completely different from her whole discography.

Because of Swift not owning her masters for her first 6 studio albums, she started rerecording them.  She released her second re-record, Red Taylor’s Version on November 21, 2021.  She made a 10 minute version of her song “All too Well” with a short film. She was nominated for 5 VMA’s for the short film.  During the awards, Taylor Swift won the Video of the Year award for her short film.  While receiving the award, she announced her 10th studio album, Midnights in her speech.

I personally really enjoyed this album.  I really enjoy Swift’s pop songs but also her alternative/indie genre that was showcased in folklore and evermore. Something I noticed is that some of the lyrics are weird and don’t really make sense. With that being said my favorite song on the album is “Would’ve could’ve should’ve” from the (3am edition). It is about Swift’s relationship with John Mayer back in 2009-2010. During the relationship he was 32 and she was only 19. Some of my favorite lyrics in the song were “Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first”. Swift felt she was very young and regrets that relationship. I really enjoyed the lyrics and the emotion. Take a listen to the album and see what you think.
