October 7th was an exciting day for every Long Islander living in or near the area of Port Jefferson.  The first location of the notable Chick-fil-A fast food chain opened up and nearly 100 Long Islanders camped out in order to be the first ones on line. This Atlanta-based restaurant has grown in popularity in recent years and many people are ecstatic that it has finally come to the island. The restaurant is said to have scheduled hours from 6:30 am- 10 pm Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sundays due to religious reasons.

One of the most well- known and successful chicken restaurant chains has not always been as popular as it is now, though. When the first Chick-fil-A was founded by Truett Cathy in 1946, it started as one restaurant in Hapeville, Georgia. As it began to gain popularity in the 60s, Cathy decided to found Chick Fil-A Inc. and he opened many restaurants in a series of malls around Atlanta. Cathy never thought that the restaurant would become the largest quick-service chicken restaurant in the United States with over 1900 locations in 42 states, and annual sales at nearly $6 billion.

Chick-fil-A has plans to open Long Island locations in Commack, Hicksville and Westbury. However, opening dates for those locations have not been set.  The first 100 customers over 18 years or older received a prize of “year’s supply of Chick-fil-A” in the form of 52 certificates for free meals.

The fast food chain that is ubiquitous in Southern parts of the country has traveled to the streets of Long Island and has created quite a ruckus. It seems that lately this restaurant has been all the hype.
