Long Island Mother Crashes into Home

Loud tire screeching, kids screaming, and a loud bang was all heard in a Brentwood neighborhood on October 4th. Ashley Thomas-Smith, 34, was the intoxicated driver of the SUV, which included her three kids, caused the car to spin out of control.

Moments after, nearby residents came rushing to the scene to help the mother and her three children, aged 4, 5, and 8. The 3 girls were released to the custody of their father at the hospital.

A home surveillance video captured the entire crash: You can see the SUV drive off the road into Angelica Reyes’s home. Luckily the Reyes’ were not home at the time of the crash, and no injuries or deaths were reported. Reyes added her three children, including her 2-month-old, often gather in that part of their house.

As of now, Ashley Thomas-Smith faces charges of intoxicated driving and endangering the welfare of children. Thomas-Smith pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on her own recognizance with an alcohol-monitoring bracelet. She is due back in court later this week. Court documents show she refused to submit to a blood test. Ashley also had her driver’s license suspended.

Reyes made a statement regarding drunk driving and the safety of children. When someone knows that they are going to be drinking, you should not be getting into a car to drive home, especially with kids in the car. The moral of the story is to make sure you can count on someone to drive you and your kids home to prevent incidents like this.
