In the wake of the new Star Wars movie, Disney, who now owns the franchise, announced that they would be making a Star Wars spin-off movie telling the back-story of Han Solo, formerly played by Harrison Ford.
Originally, Disney held open auditions for the part, allowing fans of the series to send in audition tapes alongside Hollywood stars. It was reported that they received and viewed over 2,500 auditions for the part. That list has been narrowed down to 11 stars.
Miles Teller, star of “Whiplash” and the newest “Fantastic Four” and Ansel Elgort, from “The Fault in Our Stars” are two of the front runners for the part. However, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner are also on the list.
While the movie is not set to begin filming until January 2017, there are rumors that Disney and Lucasfilm have other motives for casting this part early. With another Star Wars currently being shot, there is a possibility that young Han Solo will make a cameo. And, considering certain events in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” I think all Star Wars fans would be happy for the cameo.
The currently untitled movie is set to be released on May 25th, 2018.
